To visit Barcelona is to embrace both the past and the future. There is much to do and see in this cosmopolitan capital of Catalonia, from medieval structures to beaches to UNESCO Heritage Sites by Antoni Gaudí and Lluís Doménech i Montaner. FC Barcelona, the professional football club, is also a huge draw here.

Gaudí is responsible for many of Barcelona's must-see attractions, including iconic church La Sagrada Familia, the arts center Casa Mila, and public park system Park Güell.

Culture, economics, architecture, and gastronomy all combine to make Barcelona a magical and unparalleled experience. Stroll pedestrian walkways in the old quarter, soak in the green spaces, and gaze at the Mediterranean, gelato in hand!

Magic Fountain of Montjuic
First built for the Barcelona International Exposition in 1929, the Magic Fountain of Montjuïc is a colorful feast for the eyes. Get your cameras out — a musically choreographed, illuminated show takes place every half-hour!
Transportation
The RENFE train runs every 30 minutes to and from Barcelona airport into mid-city. The ride takes about 25 minutes. Catch the train from Clot, Passeig de Gràcia , or Barcelona Sants. The name of the airport stop is Aeropuerto.

After finding your way from the airport to your accommodations, getting around Barcelona itself is easy and convenient. The subways, trains and buses of the FGC (Catalan commuter trains) and Barcelona trams all form one transportation network. Nearly all transport requires just one ticket.
La Mercè Festival
For 5 days at the end of September, this extravaganza is held in honor of Barcelona patron saint Mare de Deu de la Merce. Parades, dancing, events and more.

The Calçotada
Culinary event at end of February or beginning of March celebrating spring onions.

Barcelona Carnival
One-week street festival at the beginning of March with parades, costumes, floats and fireworks.

Sonar Festival
Electronic music fans flock to this 3-day music fest held in June.
